Description

Also know as: Rapé, Hapé, Indian Snuffs.
Origin: Brasil
Supplier-ID: MF-1120R

All our rapés are traditional and made by indigenous people from the many different tribes. Each rapé is sustainably produced by the tribes with the wisdom of their elders. All rapés contain Nicotina rustica, ashes, a mix of plants and one plant that gives the specific power to that rapé.

About the Yawanawá tribe:

The Yawanawá (yawa/white-lipped peccary; nawa/people) are a group belonging to the Pano linguistic family who today occupy the Gregório River Indigenous Land.

The Yawanawá community is in reality a conjunction of people that includes members from other groups: Shawãdawa (Arara), Iskunawa (nowadays known as Shanênawa, who live in a village close to the town of Feijó), Rununawa, Sainawa (generally known as Yaminawá, who live in the Bagé river region), and Katukina. This configuration is the end result of a sociological dynamic common to many Pano groups – alliances. Through marriage, the capture of women during warfare conflicts, the migration of families – and a series of historical contingencies.

About the Kaxinawá tribe:

The Kaxinawá people (Huni Kuin) are an indigenous people of Brazil and Peru. The Kaxinawá are also known as the Cashinauá, Caxinauá. This name come from kashi or “bat” and nawa meaning “outsiders” or “foreigners”. Their autonym is Huni Kuin or “real men” or “true people”, from huni, “man”, and kuin meaning “real” or “true”. Their language belongs to the Pano linguistic family, which they call hatxa-Kuin (true language). The population is approximately 4,000 people. The Kaxinawa account for 42% of the indigenous population of Acre state in Western Brazil.

About the Katukina tribe:

The Katukina or Catuquina are an indigenous group who live in southwestern Brazil at the border of the Amazonas and Acre. They are the traditional carriers of rapé knowledge in the Amazonas region. They number approximately 450 individuals. Katukina people call themselves: People of heaven, people of the sun and people of the otter.

Five linguistically distinct but geographically proximate indigenous groups, Katukina or Catuquina, Katokina, Katukena, Katukino, is what we now call the Katukina. The Katukina are a tribe that is very connected to the usage of sacred plants. They consider themselves as the first tribe to receive the Kambo medicine straight from the frog. They still carry a vast knowledge about plants and the spirit of the world. Their Rapé is strong and deep, and it carries the wild and powerful spirit of the jungle.

About the Nukini tribe:

The Nukini form part of the group of Pano-speaking peoples that inhabit the Juruá valley region and that share both very similar ways of life and views of the world, and a devastating history of dispossession, violence and exploitation since the mid-19th century at the hands of the rubber industry. The Terra Indígena Nukini, adjacent to the Serra do Divisor National Park, now forms part of one of the most important protected area mosaics in Brazil. However the Nukini are demanding the expansion of their official territory to cover a part of the National Park. Whether or not the Nukini are successful, the main challenges facing this group will be to ensure its physical and cultural reproduction and to establish good relations with environmentalists and other stakeholders active in the Park. The interests of these do not always coincide with those of the Nukini and there have been a series of conflicts which made mutual dialogue difficult, as well as joint activities to protect the area, constantly threatened by loggers, hunters and drug traffickers.

Have tried 4 kinds of Rapé here so far, Rapé do onça being my favorite and perhaps strongest of those 4. Ayarapé follows in terms of strength, yet i’m just building relationship with it.
    Supreme products here from Gaiana!
