Hibiscus sabdariffa – Hibiscus Flowers
Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is a species of flowering plant in the genus Hibiscus that is native to Africa, most likely West Africa. In the 16th and early 17th centuries it was spread to the West Indies and Asia, respectively, where it has since become naturalized in many places. The dried cranberry tasting flowers are commonly steeped to make a popular infusion known as carcade.
Hibiscus, specifically roselle, has been used in folk medicine as a diuretic and mild laxative. A tea made from hibiscus flowers is known by many names around the world and is served both hot and cold. The beverage is known for its red colour, tart flavour, and vitamin C content.
